Bigfoot, Yeti: Meet Science

Posted by BioCoM Executive Account on July 7, 2014 at 11:10 PM

This week SciShow brings us a video on the newly published research which challenges the likelihood of “anomalous primates,” such as the Yeti, Sasquatch, and Bigfoot, actually existing. What they found is what you’d expect.

Two years ago, scientists at Oxford University began asking for hair and fur samples of the Yeti, Sasquatch, and Bigfoot from museums and private collections. They received a grand total of 57 samples. What they found was that all of the samples of supposed Yeti, Sasquatch, and Bigfoot hair/fur were not actually at all, but rather commonly known species of animals of their corresponding region. Two of the samples that were thought to be from the Yeti were actually the fur of a 40,000 year old polar bear. What's interesting is that both of the fossil samples don't match up with the modern polar bear genome.
